Who should I see?
Please note that our GP appointments are reserved for patients with more serious health issues.
Before booking an appointment with a doctor, you may want to consider seeing another clinician who can assist with a broad range of medical problems. Our receptionists can assist you in selecting the appropriate healthcare professional for your needs.
For minor illnesses such as a cough, cold, or headache, self-care at home may be sufficient. Please refer to the resources on treating common ailments before scheduling an appointment with a GP. Opting for self-care for common conditions can help alleviate the workload on our GPs, thus making it easier to secure an appointment when you require assistance with a more severe ailment.
Pharmacists are also trained health professionals who can offer confidential guidance on a variety of common illnesses and concerns. Instead of booking an appointment with a GP for coughs, colds, aches, and pains, you can contact or visit your local pharmacy for prompt assistance. Pharmacists can also advise you on whether a visit to a doctor is necessary. We may refer you to the pharmacy team for certain conditions, in line with the NHS guidelines. In the event of a non-life-threatening medical emergency, you can dial 111, the free NHS non-emergency number, for urgent medical assistance or advice. If you’re unsure which NHS service to call or don’t have a GP, 111 can help.
A&E is solely for life-threatening accidents and emergencies. Before going there, ask yourself if it is a genuine emergency, and consider utilising other local health services. If you are having a medical emergency, call 999.
