Domestic abuse

We recognise that some of our patients may be experiencing Domestic Abuse. The following resources may assist you in locating support.

If you require additional advice, our clinicians are available, and we encourage you to contact us.

 

If you’re concerned about someone:

  • Be Safe: Keep in mind that social media, phone calls, and emails may be monitored. Don’t confront the abuser.
  • Be Kind: Listen attentively and provide recommendations rather than making demands.
  • Be There: Show empathy and be available.
  • Get Help: Connect with organizations that can provide support and information.
  • Call 101: If you’re worried about a friend or family member or someone’s behavior is abusive, call 101.
  • Call 999: If you believe there is an immediate danger, call 999.

 

The Police

To seek guidance or assistance from the police in non-emergency situations, dial 101, the designated non-emergency number for the UK police. If you have hearing or speech difficulties, utilise their textphone service by dialing 18001 101.

National Domestic Abuse HelplineFree 24-hour helpline, guidance, and assistance for victims.

National Centre for Domestic Violence Provides a free service that enables anyone who has recently experienced or been threatened with domestic abuse to apply for an emergency court injunction.

Victim SupportProvides free and confidential support to victims of crime, witnesses, their families, and friends, with a 24-hour live chat and helpline available.

Women’s Aid Domestic Violence HelplineA 24-hour national helpline for Women’s Aid and Refuge.

National Stalking HelplineProvides guidance on the law, reporting stalking, gathering evidence, remaining safe, and reducing risk.

Shelter Emergency HelplineProvides assistance for individuals struggling with bad housing or homelessness.

Karma NirvanaProvides emotional and practical support and advice to victims and survivors of forced marriage and/or honor-based violence in complete confidence.

Forced Marriage UnitContact the Forced Marriage Unit (FMU) if you’re trying to prevent a forced marriage or need assistance leaving a marriage you were forced into.

FLOWS (Finding Legal Options for Women Survivors) – Provides legal support to protect women from domestic abuse
